Masonic Temples: A Website For A Collection Of Freemason Temples

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

If you've watched the movies such as National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage, The Man Who Would Be King starring Sean Connery, The Da Vinci Code starring Tom Hanks, etc. then you would have come across Freemasons. So what exactly is a Freemason? Masons, or Freemasons, are members of the oldest and largest fraternity in the world, with over two million active members. Freemasonry originated in the late 16th or early 17th century, and its members have included kings, presidents, scholars, and religious figures. If you'd like to learn more about it, then you can start with Wikipedia.

Freemasons have something called a Lodge which is similar to Rotary Clubs where each neighbourhood has its own Rotary Club. The Lodges are usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient.

Now that you're all caught up on what's Freemasonry and what are the Lodges, let's dive into where we come in. As I mentioned above, Freemasons have Lodges, and the Lodges conduct their meetings in the Temples. Usually most of these Masonic Temples or Halls are old and ancient. Some even centuries old. Our client wanted to build a website that acts like a Database for all the Lodges in India and also provide its history, pictures, and its location.

This project was a bit complicated mainly because we had to deal with hundreds of images that were each shot with a DSLR, which means the size of each image was around 15mb+. So we had to resize and compress each image and then upload it to the website. If we had just uploaded the 15mb+ photos to the website, then the Loading Speed of the website would be a nightmare since each page would be at least 150mb - 200mb! And accessing the website with a smartphone would be impossible since the website consumes so much data.

In the end, we built the whole website using a CMS so it's easier for the client to access, edit, upload more temples in the future or make any changes to the website, which also makes the website a bit more affordable and cost-effective.
